Jeff Goldblum Is Replacing Hugh Grant as Zeus on Netflix Series Kaos

The End of the F***ing World creator Charlie Covell is working on his next series, and that series is called Kaos: an eight-episode contemporary take that one of the directors, Sophie Klein, describes as “joyful and dark.” Initially, Hugh Grant was on board to play the Greek god Zeus but has since reportedly dropped out for scheduling reasons. Jeff Goldblum is now on board in the role and joining the show’s ensemble cast.

Looking for more on what Kaos is about? Here’s Netflix’s logline for the series, which frankly doesn’t tell us much:

This genre-bending series puts a modern twist on Greek and Roman mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power and life in the underworld.

According to Deadline, Goldblum’s Zeus may be all-powerful, but he’s also extremely insecure. One day, however, he wakes up with a wrinkle on his forehead and freaks out—his path from there is apparently a dark one as he becomes more and more paranoid about his inevitable death (I feel you, Zeus).

Goldblum most recently was on the big screen reprising his role as Dr. Malcom Reynolds in Jurassic World Dominion (and is pictured in Jurassic Park above). In Kaos, he’ll be joining an ensemble cast that includes Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Killian Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Misia Butler, Leila Farzad, Nabhaan Rizwan, Rakie Ayola, and Stanley Townsend. There aren’t many details yet on the plot, but Deadline also says that we should expect tracksuits instead of togas and that the gods will continue to be treacherous creatures.

No news yet on when the show will drop on Netflix, but filming is set to start later this summer.
